reality, lately.

porch songs + sage. inspired by my favorite co-worker to make anti-voodoo dolls/protection dolls. she needed one and it has been a blast stitching these little babes. filled w/ organic rice + herbs (this one with the sage pictured above)

I am finding it difficult to name the dolls. Feeling that potential owners should, well, make them their own by naming them.

Our porch. As you can see, our landlords drive bus! This is a glimpse down Winchester Road (aka, home of the tree house.)

The flea market find this weekend! There are 4 of them. They will become feminist portrait windows, inspired by a recent Craft Magazine article. Be on the lookout for one listed in the shop.

I possibly have an art show/fair coming up in september. Busy building inventory until then!

Updates Galore!

Why hello, craft world.

It sure has been a while.

Experiment on Etsy: As expected, nothing happened to the gender normativity or jesus loving items that I reported. I suppose the small rebellions are sometimes all we have. I have recently posted a bunch of new goodness on Eve Talks Back- check it out! I am especially proud of the lovely "Feminists Fuck Better" wall art. It did my soul good cookin' that one up.

Shop update: Up until today, all of my cards were sold as reproductions. For the sake of getting my own creative juices flowing, all cards AND postcards will be sold as originals from here on out. What you see is what you get! No copies!

Life update: We just adopted a lovely little cat named Thistle. This morning, she was hiding behind our toilet. Cats are such interested creatures! Also, I am a little slow on the uptake in craft land as we just returned from the Bahamas and I am currently a finalist in a job search for the position of my dreams- fingers crossed and hopes high. Please be patient as I organize and get the ball rolling again.

Reclaiming Language.

hi diy world.

i was so excited to list my "kits" yesterday. then, someone on ArtFire flagged the item as "offensive." while to ArtFire folks were pretty cool about it, i think that this brings up a larger issue.

when i surf these sites : etsy, 1000 markets, etsy, etc. i constantly find items that i find incredible offensive. these include "just like mommy" onesies that depict a woman rolling dough and wearing an apron. or the lovely "just like daddy" tie bibs that seem to be all the rage. essentialist gender rolls with infants pisses me off. people who make baby feet earrings with the title "pro-life" and a bible verse in the description piss me off. i wonder what would happen if i flagged these items as "offensive." i will do it and let you know.

my bet is that those folks are just "expressing their beliefs" which, because they are considered legitimate by mainstream U.S. culture, they will not be removed.

to be continued....
